Bird or Christ?

In an article entitled 'Bird or Christ?' The Age reports that Superman is being conscripted to teaching the faith in schools. "Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Superman and he's bringing his otherworldy powers to British schools to teach godless children about Christianity." [The Age 5/2/06]

It seems that 2000 years on we have still missed the point! Jesus was no superman. He came not as the expected conquering Messiah but from the dusty back blocks of Palestine. Christ is more the antihero, perhaps more Mr McGoo like.

Any better suggestions?

Batman is also an anti-hero. Perhaps the figure of Batman is a better "hero" to teach faith.
Both Christ and Batman where 'normal' men, who made a decision to do something about the injustice surrounding them.
The difference is that Batmans choice stemmed from fear, and anger, while Jesus was motivated by love. Although I'm not suggesting that Christ was annointed by circumstance.
